Plans & Pricing

Green Chef has a straightforward plan selection. First you select you diet preference (Keto+Paleo, Balanced Living, or Plant-Powered). Then, you have the option to select 2 or 4 people. From there, you can select 2, 3, or 4 recipes per week (2 available with 4 people).

Each diet preference has their own menu items. There are some recipes that overlap between the Balanced and Plant-Powered menus. I believe the Keto+Paleo recipes are exclusive to that plan only.

If you wanted to try meals from the Keto+Paleo menu, you can edit your meal plan later.

The Keto+Paleo plan costs $12.99 per serving while Balancing Living and Plant Powered plans cost $11.99 per serving. There is also an $8.99 shipping fee. I’ll breakdown the prices in the chart below (before any taxes or discounts). I apologize, it’s a bit messy.

Shipping & Delivery

Green Chef delivers almost everywhere in the continental United States. Unfortunately, there are no deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, and parts of Louisiana.

  • You can receive delivery on any weekday (may differ based on area).
  • You can change delivery frequency (weekly, every 2 weeks, every 4 weeks).
  • The ingredients in the package are kept cool using insulation (recommended to fridge items by end of delivery day).
  • Addresses can be edited by going to “Hi First Name” and “Account Info”.
  • Delivery days can be changed by clicking “Edit Subscription” on the main screen or by going to “Hi First Name” and “Edit Subscription”.

Recipe Selection

After signing up, you’ll be able to choose any recipe from your chosen menu. You can easily change recipes by clicking the big “Change Recipes” button.

Green Chef offers 9 recipes every week. Each recipe tells you if it’s gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc. There are also meals labeled as Chef’s Favorite or Quick Cook.

Although meals don’t show time to cook at first glance, you can click on a desired recipe for the info. On the same page, you’ll find nutrition facts, allergens, and a ingredients list.

Below is an example of what you’d see when choosing your meals.

Skipping & Cancellation

To skip a week, click on desired week and hit “Edit Order”. The last option on the list is “Skip Order”. Hit “Skip” on the confirmation page and you’re done!

To cancel your subscription, go to “Hi First Name” and click on “Account Info”. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you’ll find a “Cancel Subscription” button.

Ingredients & What's Not Provided

When you check a recipe on Green Chef’s menu, it first shows you nutrition facts and a comprehensive ingredients list. Up top, there’s a “View Recipe Card” button which takes you to the whole recipe. This is where you’ll find ingredients for the recipe.

Below is an example for their Feta Burgers with Roasted Red Potatoes and Lemon Caper Aïoli with Basil. It shows all the ingredients needed for the recipe. There’s no indication of whether you need your own ingredients so I’m assuming not!

Inside The Box

On delivery day, you’ll receive a green box (which of course is Green Chef!). It’s a simple design that still looks nice. Much like others, you can find a small sticker stating where each ingredient is sourced from.

Upon opening the box, you’ll be greeted with box flaps indicating recycling steps. Opening the box is much like opening a picnic basket. It’s a pleasant experience and there was also a sample of collagen dietary supplement in my box (yours may differ).

The ingredients are organized very well. Each recipe has its own paper bag. The proteins below are also wrapped in paper. All in all, a premium feeling unboxing experience.

Meal Review

Personally, I got a 3 recipe plan for 2 people. Let’s see if Green Chef’s meals are worth the try. Below are short reviews of the meals I got. For more in-depth reviews, check out my full Green Chef meal reviews.

The first meal in my box was the Caribbean Shrimp & Coconut Rice. This being a Chef’s Favorite intrigued me. After trying it, this meal is well worthy of that title! An absolutely delicious meal that should be tried (unless you’re allergic to shrimp).

The next meal in the box was the Pecan-Crusted Trout. This was a delightful meal that consisted of many different flavors. The savory juices of the trout match well with the sweet flavors of the squash and salad.

The last meal in the box were the Sun-Dried Tomato Flatbreads. This vegetarian meal reminded me of Blaze Pizza. It tastes fantastic! The only part of this meal I didn’t like was the salad. The flavors didn’t mesh well with the flatbreads.

It’s tough to find any negatives for Green Chef. It’s an affordable certified organic meal kit. You get a healthy amount of vegetables with every meal and the portion sizes are decent. Perhaps the only downside is their weekly recipe selection at only 9 recipes per week.

Should You Try Green Chef?

  • Has dietary preferences (plant-powered, keto + paleo, gluten-free)
  • Likes looking at in-depth nutrition facts
  • Enjoys quick cooking meals (Quick Cook recipes)
