Plans & Prices

When first signing up, you’re asked to choose your preference (meat & veggies, veggie, family friendly, calorie smart, quick and easy, and pescatarian). Then you select a plan.

Hello Fresh has plans that serve 2 or 4 people. From there, you can select 2 to 5 meals per week for 2 people. Plans for 4 people can choose 2 to 4 meals per week.

You can always edit your preferences and plan settings in your “Account Settings” later. There are also more preferences to choose from (variety, seafood free, pork free, beef free).

Depending on your plan, the price per serving ranges from $7.49 to $10.99. The shipping fee is $7.99 across the board. A price breakdown is shown below.

Shipping & Delivery

Hello Fresh delivers to almost every state except Hawaii and Alaska. To see which days your delivery can occur, you’ll have to input your zip code during sign up.

Here’s some more information regarding their delivery:

  • Delivers via UPS, FedEx, and select regional couriers (No USPS).
  • Ingredients are kept fresh using gel packs, cooling material, and insulated liners.
  • Shipping is $7.99 regardless of plan.
  • You can edit your addresses and delivery window in your “Account Settings” under “Plan Settings”.
  • Packaging is recyclable.

Recipe Selection

As always take a look at the menu before signing up! Your meals will always be pre-selected for you based on your preference. You can easily add and remove meals from your box before the deadline (5 days before delivery).

To edit, head to “My Menu” and select the desired date. From there, you can hit the minus icon to remove the meal from your box or plus to add more servings (max 12 servings).

You can also choose from 21 other meals on the menu. There are premium (additional charge), quick prep, veggie, low calorie, and spicy options. Meals labelled as “Hall of Fame” are top rated recipes brought back from previous menus.

Hello Fresh also offer quick meals, sides, snacks, drinks, proteins, and desserts for an additional cost. There’s things like coffee, avocados, sandwiches, salads, cheesecakes, etc. but they’re kinda pricey.

Hello Fresh provides the following information for each meal:

  • Prep & Total Time
  • Cooking Difficulty
  • Nutrition Values
  • Allergens
  • Ingredients
  • Ingredients Not Included
  • Utensils Used
  • Cooking Directions

Skipping & Cancellation

To skip a box, go to your “My Menu” and select the desired week. Hit the “Edit Delivery” button and “Skip this week” is the first option. From here you can also change your delivery day and box size (meal plan).

When skipping, Hello Fresh asks why you want to skip so just choose what applies to you. Skipping is as easy as that!

To cancel, go to your “Account Settings”. Under “Plan Settings”, scroll down to “Status” and you can cancel from there. To try and keep you on board, they’ll offer you some alternatives (frequency of boxes received or skipping deliveries) instead of cancelling.

Ingredients & What's Not Provided

Hello Fresh mentions that they have a rigorous standard when selecting meat and fish suppliers. There’s no mention of organic or farm-fresh ingredients in their FAQs.

Besides that, each meal recipe will tell you what ingredients are included in the box and what aren’t. They also tell you what you’ll be using to cook.

Below is an example of their Italian Garden Veggie Soup Recipe. It shows what ingredients are sent, ingredients not included, utensils, and nutrition information.

Inside The Box

When you receive your box, you won’t miss it! You can check out the country of origin sticker to see where your ingredients came from. It looks just like the EveryPlate one.

Inside the box, you’ll be greeted with special offers for other products. On the side, you’ll find your recipe cards. Hello Fresh has some nice packaging to keep your ingredients fresh and cool. You’ll also get a free snack sample (I got a peanut butter energy bar).

I liked that each meal had its own paper bag and the protein is separated. Everything is neatly organized and it looks fantastic!

Meal Review

For Hello Fresh, I only got a 2 meal plan for 2 people. I’m wondering if it’s worth the extra money over something like EveryPlate or Dinnerly. Below are summaries of my thoughts on the meals. For a more in-depth look, check out my full reviews!

The first meal was the Creamy Lemon Spinach Ricotta Ravioli. This “Hall of Fame” veggie meal may not look very appetizing from pictures but it’s very delicious. All the flavors work incredibly well together.

The second meal was the Beef Bulgogi Meatballs. This meal looked great but wasn’t amazing. Some flavors didn’t mesh well and it’s a tad overseasoned. This is one of the few meals that seemed mediocre in my eyes.

A major drawback when using Hello Fresh was their slow website. Sometimes it would take a while just to get to the home page! Overall, Hello Fresh is a good service but I think you can get a similar experience with cheaper alternatives.
