Is Samyang's Buldak Topokki A Good Value?

One bowl of topokki almost costs the same as a 5-pack of ramen! It can be a little hard to find as some Asian grocery stores have it and some don’t which is one of the downside to shopping at physical markets.

There aren’t many options online but for those who prefer online shopping, I’ll post a link to Amazon(paid link) so you can check prices and availability if you want to try it for yourself.

Much of what we review here are considered cheap or budget products and this one is no different. Although it’s more expensive than the ramen, there are people who prefer rice cakes over ramen.

What's In A Bowl of Tteokbokki?

Samyang’s Buldak Tteokbokki comes in a bowl instead of a pack but shares the same black scheme seen in the buldak ramen.

It’s sad to see our chicken friend crying but the rice cake on the fork looks like a sausage! Other than that, it’s a simple package with an alright looking serving suggestion.

What’s included in the tteokbokki bowl? In the bowl, there’s a pack of rice cakes, spicy sauce, and they even included a spork!

What Does Samyang's Buldak Topokki Taste Like?

It looks like there’s not much rice cake given to us. For the price, I can’t complain though. The sauce has this spicy barbecue smell. There’s a sweet and smokey taste to it as well.

The rice cakes are thick and chewy just like the ramen. The tteokbokki goes really well with the sauce. I’d even say this fits better than the ramen itself but then again, I might just be a bigger fan of rice cakes.

Is Samyang's Hot Chicken Flavor Tteokbokki Spicy?

It’s the same spice we know and love. I’d even argue that this is a bit spicier as there is more sauce. There is more sauce compared to rice cakes which mean more sauce per bite.

The topokki feels like it holds more sauce too. When you grab a rice cake, it’s drenched in sauce making it a little spicier in my opinion.
