Is Samyang's Stew Type A Good Value?

I got this for the same price as I got every other Samyang ramen excluding the corn and kimchi flavors. Of course purchasing at local Asian grocery stores should be your first choice since they offer lower prices and no shipping is required.

However, I understand that most people may not have access or like shopping at Asian stores. For online shoppers, there are a couple options. You guys can check Hmart and Amazon(paid link) for current pricing and availability since these things tend to change frequently.

As always, these 5-packs of Samyang ramen have excellent value!

What's In A Pack of Stew Type?

The Samyang Stew Type package has a simple black and red design. Hochi makes it look very spicy with its rosy cheeks and sweat drops running down its face. The sample image looks like some hot pot you can find at Boiling Point or any hot pot place. Looks appetizing.

What’s in the stew type package? The package includes a circular block of ramen, the soup base, and a packet of powder with dried vegetables.

How To Cook Samyang Stew Type Ramen?

The cooking directions are as follows:

  1. Put sauce into 500 ml of water and boil. (less water = thicker broth)

  2. When boiling, add noodles and cook for 5 more minutes.

  3. Turn off fire and add powder packet.

  4. Stir well and serve.

Cooking is super easy as there is no need to drain water. Might be the quickest Samyang to cook!

What Does Samyang's Stew Type Ramen Taste Like?

When you smell the stew, you can feel the spice in your nostrils. The stew does taste pretty similar to the sauce variant although more muted I suppose due to the inclusion of water. There’s a hint of sweetness and saltiness with the spice kicking in not too long after.

Although I prefer the thicker noodles, these noodles go really well with the stew. There is a good amount of slurpability. The downside with soupy ramens is they make noodles soggy after awhile. Unfortunately, the stew type is also a victim of this.

Is Samyang's Stew Type Spicy?

Looking at the scoville rating, it seems like the stew type would be really spicy. Of course, you shouldn’t rely solely on the rating to judge how spicy something is because it’s the experience is different from person to person.

When I was eating, there wasn’t much spice initially. As the noodles absorbed more of the stew, it became spicier. Almost as spicy as the original but not quite there. Maybe you want to drink the soup to get more of the spice after finishing the noodles but for me, it looks too oily so I didn’t want to.

Spiciness
3.5/5
