Overview: Trader Joe's Pepperoni Pizza Mac & Cheese Bowl

Verdict: Trader Joe’s Pepperoni Pizza Mac and Cheese Bowl represents pizza really well. There was pepperoni, cheese, and even a hint of tomato sauce. Only thing different is the dough replaced for macaroni. The amount of cheese in this was disappointing.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as a mac and cheese without the boatloads of cheese. Nevertheless, it’s still tastes great. I think you should try it and determine for yourself if it’s considered a mac and cheese.

Price

Trader Joe’s Pepperoni Pizza Mac & Cheese costs $2.99. This the usual price for their mac and cheeses. Not a bad price at all.

Cooking Method #1: Conventional Oven

Like other Trader Joe’s mac & cheeses, there are two heating methods. The first method involves using the oven:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Remove tray from box and remove film from tray.

  3. Place on a baking sheet.

  4. Bake on the center rack of the oven for 30-35 minutes.

  5. Let stand for 1 minute.

  6. Stir and serve.

Cooking times may vary depending on oven.

Caution: Product may be hot!

Cooking Method #2: Microwave

The second way is through a microwave (1200 watt):

  1. Remove tray from box.

  2. Pierce film several times.

  3. Microwave on high for 5 to 6 minutes.

  4. Let stand for 1 minute.

  5. Remove film, stir and serve.

Microwave cook times may vary depending on oven wattage.

Impressions & Taste

Wow! For the price, they didn’t skimp on the pepperoni at all. It looks and smells pretty similar to a pepperoni pizza. All it’s missing is the dough which has been replaced by macaroni. At first glance, it looks like there might not be enough cheese but let’s dig in.

After heating in the oven for 35 minutes, it’s not as warm as I thought it would be. Probably just my oven. The macaroni is great once again. It has a nice, soft texture that requires minimal chewing effort.

As I suspected, there isn’t enough cheese in this mac and cheese, which is a bit disappointing. It could be intentional as most pizzas tend to lack on the cheese end.

I am glad they added tons of pepperoni to this mac and cheese though. There’s even small chopped up bits of what I think are pepperoni in there. It adds a bit of meaty, smoky flavor to the macaroni helping elevate the overall flavor profile.

Combining everything together really gives you a pizza sensation. From the slight tomato sauce flavor to the heaps of pepperoni, everything works well together.
