Which Samyang Buldak Ramen Is The Best? (10 Flavors Ranked)

Table of Contents

Introduction

After eating 10 different Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Flavor Ramens, I’ve decided to compare each of them to find out which one is the best. Starting from the best flavor, I’ll be counting down to the worst flavor I’ve tried.

Please remember that this list is my opinion and if you disagree with it, it’s okay. Let’s get started!

1. Samyang Buldak Cheese Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen (BEST)

Being a cheese lover, the addition of cheese made the buldak ramen way better. It adds another element to the sauce by making it creamier but it does lower the spice level a bit.

I wish they added more cheese but we could do that ourselves anyway. It’s so good that I couldn’t stop eating this even though it gets spicier and spicier. For more information on this ramen, read my full review!

Cheese fans, do yourself a favor and try this! You won’t regret it.

2. Samyang Buldak Curry Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

The curry flavor smells and tastes amazing! There’s different spices that you can taste in the rich, creamy sauce. The flavor is a little sweet in the beginning and savory at the end.

The only reason why this isn’t in first place is because I’m a cheese fanatic! If you wanna read more about this ramen, check out my full review!

3. Samyang Buldak Carbo Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

The carbonara flavor lets out a strong pasta smell and looks the part with included bits of parsley. It tastes amazing with it’s pasta-esque flavor.

Although I’m not a big fan of the noodles, they work well with the sauce. The spice is also very minimal in this one. If you wanna read more about this ramen, check out my full review!

4. Samyang Buldak Kimchi Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

For a kimchi flavored ramen, you’d be fooled into thinking this is actual kimchi because of the smell. It’s a very unique flavor with a bit of sweetness initially, then some sourness, and ends with spiciness.

The dried kimchi gives it a nice crunch from time to time but I wish there were more. This one is also not that spicy compared to others. For more info on this ramen, read my full review!

I wish you guys could check this one out but it’s not on Amazon…

5. Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

The one that started it all with its excellent noodles and famous spicy sauce. It introduced the signature subtly sweet but super spicy combination which can be found in almost all the flavors.

The original tastes good and the spice isn’t too overwhelming. It’s a good starting point but not the best when you try the others. If you wanna read more about this ramen, check out my full review!

6. Samyang Buldak Mala Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

This flavor has a more savory taste than the others. The spice is unique in that is has a small numbing sensation coupled with Samyang’s spice.

The spice can take a few seconds to kick in but when it does, all areas of your mouth are affected and it does tend to get worse as you eat more. For more information on this ramen, check out my full review!

7. Samyang Stew Type Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

This flavor is basically the original in a stew form. There’s good flavor but it has different noodles that still work well with the stew.

It does tend to get spicier as the noodles absorb the stew. This isn’t bad but it felt odd to eat a Samyang ramen with soup. If you want to read more about this ramen, check out my full review!

Just from its intimidating package, you can tell this is spicy. If that’s not enough, you can smell the spice once it’s done cooking.

This is definitely the spiciest one I’ve tried so far. In fact, it’s so spicy that the ramen just isn’t enjoyable to eat after awhile. For more about this ramen, check out my full review!

9. Samyang Buldak Jjajang Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

This one looked pretty appetizing on the packaging. But after trying it for myself, I felt like something was missing. There was a lack of flavor and spice that is usually present in each flavor.

In my opinion, the jjajang only stood out through its bright green packaging and dark brown noodles. Kinda like a good-looking person who has a horrible personality! For more about this ramen, read my full review.

10. Samyang Buldak Corn Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen (WORST)

Picture of Samyang Buldak Corn Ramen

I liked the sweet corn smell of this one, but that was it. This ramen had flavor and spice to it but the flavor wasn’t very good. The noodles felt odd in this sauce but it might be because I don’t like the flat, fettuccine noodles as ramen.

I tried eating this multiple times to see if it would grow on me but it didn’t. It just doesn’t taste good. If you wanna read more about this ramen, check out my full review!

Alternatives

1. Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Flavor Tteokbokki

Here’s an amazing alternative to Samyang’s Buldak Hot Chicken Ramen! For those who like tteokbokki/topokki, this will give you the buldak experience without the ramen.

Keep in mind though, it’s a bit pricier than its ramen variants. If you want more information about this tteokbokki, read my full review!

2. Samyang Buldak Carbo Hot Chicken Flavor Ttoekbokki

Lid for Samyang's Carbo Topokki

Another fantastic alternative but for the carbo ramen. The carbo tteokbokki packs the same delicious flavors and mild heat in a bowl of rice cakes.

The only downside for me is that the rice cakes can feel a little off in this pasta-esque sauce. It is a bit more expensive too. For more information on this topokki, check out my full review!

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Samyang Buldak Ramen is the most spicy?

Most of you guys already know the answer to this question but for those who aren’t sure, I’ll let you know. During my ramen marathon, I thought the spiciest one out of the bunch was the Samyang 2x Spicy Ramen and it wasn’t even close.

The other ones were spicy but they didn’t last as long or cause as much pain as the 2x did. Drinking liquids only helped temporarily. The only way to get through it was to ride it out. I’ve eaten some stuff that are even more spicy than this but it still gets me.

If you guys think you can handle your spice, you should definitely give the 2x spicy a try!

Which Samyang is the least spicy?

Out of the 10 flavors, I found that Samyang’s Carbo Ramen was the least spicy. Although lacking in spice, it’s one of the best tasting flavors.

The Jjajang and Corn ramens are also not very spicy but they’re some of the worst additions to Samyang’s lineup in my opinion. If you want to have a little bit more spice, the kimchi ramen is also a great flavor to try!

I’ve heard of a light version which is supposed to be 40% less spicy than the original buldak ramen but I haven’t tried it personally. If you’re interested, check it out on Amazon (paid link) but it’s a bit pricey!

How to make Samyang ramen less spicy?

To make Samyang ramen less spicy, there are a few things you can do:

#1: Add some milk while mixing in the spicy sauce. This adds creaminess to the ramen but also helps with some of the spiciness.

#2: Use less of the sauce packet (like 1/2 or 1/4 of the packet) instead of the whole thing. This results in less flavor for the ramen but also less spiciness. If you don’t want consume dairy products this can be an option for you.

#3: Adding cheese to the ramen. Everyone loves cheese, including me. This adds creaminess to the ramen like milk but if you add too much, then it can get clumpy.

#4: Adding some eggs. Eggs can help take away a bit of the spice and it’s a way to make the ramen taste better. Adding both cheese and eggs can help make the ramen taste a lot better.

#5: Keep more than the suggested water content when draining. This will help dilute some of the sauce and make it less spicy but the ramen will become more watery. If you don’t consume dairy products, this is another option for you.

Combining some of these to tips can help make your ramen taste even better and lessen the spice.

If you guys have any additional tips for lessening the spice for Samyang’s ramens, feel free to share it!
